What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer or mobile device by a website when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, provide a better user experience, and give website operators information about how their site is being used.
How Cookies Work
When you visit DCANews, our server sends a small file to your browser which is stored on your device. On subsequent visits, your browser sends this file back to our server, allowing us to recognise your browser and remember your preferences. Cookies cannot run programs or deliver viruses to your device — they are passive data files.
Cookies can be either "session cookies" (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent cookies" (stored on your device for a set period of time or until you delete them manually).
Cookies We Use
DCANews uses four categories of cookies. The table below provides a complete breakdown of each type:
| Category | Purpose | Examples | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Session management and basic website security. These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off. | Session ID, security tokens | Session (deleted on browser close) |
| Analytics | Traffic measurement and audience analysis. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website — which pages are visited, how long users stay, and where they come from. | _ga, _gid, _ga_XXXX | Up to 26 months |
| Functional | Preference storage to improve your experience. These cookies remember choices you make (such as language preferences) and provide enhanced features. | Preference cookies, UI state | Up to 12 months |
| Marketing / Affiliate | Affiliate referral tracking. When you click a casino link on DCANews, tracking cookies allow affiliate networks to attribute the referral to us for commission purposes. These do not track you for advertising. | Affiliate click ID, referral tokens | 30–90 days (varies by programme) |
How Long Cookies Last
Cookies on DCANews fall into two duration categories:
Session Cookies
Session cookies are temporary and are automatically deleted from your device when you close your browser. These are used for essential functions like maintaining your browsing session while you navigate between pages.
Persistent Cookies
Persistent cookies remain on your device for a defined period of time. Analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics' _ga cookie) expire after 26 months. Functional cookies typically expire after 12 months. Affiliate tracking cookies vary by programme but generally expire between 30 and 90 days.
Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies placed on your device when you visit DCANews are set by third-party services we use. We do not control these cookies and they are governed by the respective third party's privacy and cookie policies.
- Google Analytics — sets
_gaand_gidcookies for traffic analysis. See Google's cookie policy for details. - Affiliate Networks — casino operator affiliate programmes set tracking cookies when you click through from our reviews. Each operator's cookie policy governs their specific cookies.
We recommend reviewing the cookie policies of these third-party services independently to understand how your data is handled.
Managing Cookies
You have the right to manage, restrict, or delete cookies from your device at any time. Here is how to do so in the major browsers:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
Important Note
Please be aware that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of DCANews and other websites you visit. Disabling essential cookies may prevent some pages from loading correctly. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your browsing experience but will limit our ability to improve the website based on usage data.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics tracking specifically by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Changes to This Policy
DCANews may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our cookie usage or applicable regulations. When changes are made, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of DCANews following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
